NaBloPoMo Day Three: Health and other tidbits

3 Nov

First off, an update on my health.  It would appear, thankfully, that yesterday’s stuffy nose and sore throat was little more than a false alarm.  I slept quite well last night and awoke today feeling far more wonderful than how I awoke yesterday.

My next topic is the 2012 presidential election.  I will discuss the candidates and the politics again later, but I want to discuss the length of the process.

Right so, my second and more prominent topic was going to be the election, but then this story popped up from the local NBC affiliate 11Alive:  Major fake ID investigation at UGA.

Click through and read if you’d like, but I’ll summarize it here this way:  UGA police have the names of hundreds of university students who have fake IDs.  Those students have one week to surrender the fake, cooperate with the investigation, or they will face criminal charges and arrest.  The 11Alive story cites university Police Chief Jimmy Williamson as saying that they have found three manufacturers and 50-60 distributors who have provided fake IDs for roughly 1,600 students.

1,600.  Oh my goodness.  That is completely absurd to me.  I admit, I’m pretty much a do-gooder, who didn’t sneak alcohol or cigarettes until I was 19 at the earliest.  So take my feelings on this “fake ID ring” with a grain of salt.  But.  How freaking stupid do you think the UGA police is?  Our fair university regularly earns distinction as one of America’s top party schools.  And you don’t think they just might figure out that someone might make fake IDs for students?

I mean, seriously.  I know some of my friends have had or have a fake ID, and of course I don’t want to see anything bad happen to them, but gosh!  The law is the law for a reason, not just to be a party pooper.  Whether you like it or not, you have to deal with it.  That, of course, applies to more things than just fake IDs, but that’s the issue that has got my dander up presently.

And now…

For something completely different.
